Earth Anthem

One of the greatest visionary of all times and protagonist of holistic lifestyle, Mahatma Gandhi has said it all long back, precisely in just 13 words…

“The world has enough for everyone’s need,

but not enough for everyone’s greed…”

Human life started with the specific amount of Natural Resources it had and evolved to a Modern Living with the help of Developments it underwent in due course, left the planet with much lesser resources as it consumed and continue to consume immeasurable natural resources causing long-lasting fatal effects like climate change, loss of biodiversity, environment degradation, ecological imbalance so on and so forth. This rampant growth of human life comfort inventions has led to a massive destruction of the forests and climates it resides in and at this point experts believe that Humans are already consuming 1.5 earths and soon this virtually insatiable species will need 3 Earths to cater to their need (or greed…?)

Human brain that has all the capacities to invent a parallel world with cloning and prototyping seems to have forgotten a smaller detail that it would always be either a parallel or a virtual world. In real, natural and organic world, nothing could be repaired, replaced, regenerated or redesigned. We will have to live with all the Natural Resources we are left with and the climatic conditions we have enforced ourselves into. The damage we do to the environment is extremely difficult to recover, if not impossible. The very rudimentary life principle of ‘Prevention is better than cure’ was never more apt as it is for this disaster that is imminent if not understood and tackled otherwise and wisely enough!

A group of conscious and concerned people established ‘Environment Day’ to address this threat to the sheer existence of human and other species on 5th June, the commencing day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972. Since then 5th June of every year is celebrated as World Environment Day and various initiative are undertaken across the globe to show that we care for our planet and are committed to do our bit to preserve it. The typical hypocrite question in the face of global challenges, ‘What can I do about it? A single person alone cannot make anything change…’ is profoundly answered by UN Secretary, General Ban Ki-Moon

“Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference.”

To support this vision and belief of ‘Together We Can’, the Theme of World Environment Day 2015 is deliberately made stimulating as well as encouraging…

“Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care.”

Another great mind and the greatest of the philosopher scientist this world has witnessed, Albert Einstein, said “The environment is everything that isn’t me…” May be that’s the reason Human couldn’t empathize enough with it as it is conditioned to care only for what relates to I, Me, Myself. There is a dire need to change this self-centered mindset if we should survive few more generations before we ourselves put an end to our own existence and become extinct. On this environment day when it’s really high time we took a step to keep our planet survivable, let’s take a pledge with the words of this beautiful ‘Earth Anthem’ by Abhay Kumar…

Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the continents and the oceans of the world
united we stand as flora and fauna
united we stand as species of one earth
black, brown, white, different colours
we are humans, the earth is our home.

Our cosmic oasis, cosmic blue pearl
the most beautiful planet in the universe
all the people and the nations of the world
all for one and one for all
united we unfurl the blue marble flag
black, brown, white, different colours
we are humans, the earth is our home…!
