‘Sustained plan to give back: A way towards betterment of society’

Profile of Mr. Sujith Herbert

Mr. Sujith Herbert, General Manager, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, Gulmarg came on board The Khyber in December 2014.  Prior to joining The Khyber, he was General Manager- India Head at JHM Interstate India Hotels & Resorts. In his earlier assignments, Sujith has also served successfully in different capacities at Hilton, Delhi, Danat Hotels & Resorts in Abu Dhabi, Accor Hotels in Dubai and Le Meridien Mina Seyahi in Dubai.

During Sujith’s tenure at JHM Interstate India Hotels & Resorts, he played an instrumental role in revenue management and e- distribution. Having spent almost 21 years in the hospitality industry, with a strong background in revenue management, Sujith holds a degree in Hotel Management & Accommodation Operation from the Institute of Hotel Management, Pusa and a graduate degree in Economics from Calicut University.

In his capacity as the General Manager of the property, Sujith oversees all aspects of Property Management in accordance with Company mission statement, including maximization of financial performance, guest satisfaction, and staff development within established quality standards.

BH: Please share with us various CSR projects taken up by Khyber resorts or you are planning in near future.

SH: The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa since its launch has been very conscious of its environment and in nurturing the habitat as well giving back to the very small populace of Gulmarg and the surrounding areas.

The following CSR activities have been initiated and are ongoing: 

    Gulmarg Clean Drive

    Blood Donation Camp – every quarter

   Organised lunch for physically challenged/ differently abled people from Srinagar to experience the resort

   During the floods last year, he Khyber organized flood relief by distributing food items, clothes, clean water in the neighbouring and affected areas

The Khyber has also initiated a Plantation Drive – Go Green project launched under the banner of Khyber Greens, wherein we have undertaken up a five year project of planting 3000 trees, preserving the current eco system and enhancing the beauty of the land.

The Khyber has also adopted the Kunzer Higher Secondary School which was nearly destroyed in the floods last year. Post the flood, we provided them with computers & also helped in rebuilding the school.

BH: Your thoughts on mandatory CSR regulation by government.

SH: I believe every employer has a responsibility towards the society and surroundings. This awareness and a dedicated and sustained plan to give back would definitely contribute towards the betterment of the society.
