Former CEO Infosys pledges $200k grant to The/Nudge Foundation

The/Nudge Foundation, a non-profit that focuses on sustainable poverty alleviation at scale, announced that Nandan Nilekani, former CEO of Infosys will be pledging a seed-grant of $200,000 in the organization. The announcement was made at the GMIC Conference in Bangalore, India’s largest mobile conference that attracts thousands of mobile internet industry leaders from India and around the world. The/Nudge Foundation is the social partner for the GMIC Conference.

Atul Satija, Founder & CEO, The/Nudge Foundation said, “The Foundation is extremely honored to be receiving this grant from Mr Nilekani. Naveen and Vijay have also provided the foundation with tremendous support, and we are very grateful for that. The money pledged by each of these visionaries will enable the Foundation to reach its goal of pulling 1 million people sustainably out of poverty by 2020 at a much faster pace.”

Commenting on the grant, Nandan Nilekani who is also the former Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has said, “The demographic dividend is one of India’s biggest opportunities but is also a big challenge. The Nudge Foundation is focused on giving our underprivileged youth a decent second chance in life by investing in them in a unique learning environment. I am glad to support this initiative. We need projects like these to succeed at scale and speed.”

Additionally, the foundation received contributions of $50,000 from GWC (Great Wall Club), $75,000 from InMobi and $40,000 from Paytm at the event’s fundraiser.

Through an innovative approach to poverty alleviation, The/Nudge Foundation hopes to impart life-skills, literacy as well as livelihoods to the poor in an integrated fashion at residential “Gurukuls”.
